DearColleagues:
On behalf of theorganizing committee, we have the honour and pleasure to invite youto the International Paediatric Respiratory and Allergy Congress toPrague, Czech Republic. This congress has been organized by theCzech Initiative for Asthma in cooperation with the Czech MedicalAssociation J. E. Purkyne(breve) - the Czech Society of Allergologyand Clinical Immunology and the Working Group for PaediatricPulmonology of the Czech Paediatric Society, together with theInternational Pediatric Respiratory and Allergy Forum and with thesupport of the Paediatric Assembly of the ERS, the Interasma, theAmerican College of Chest Physicians and the EFA. The idea oforganizing this congress in Prague originated in Sydney, Australia,in 1997, during the inaugural congress of the InternationalPediatric Respiratory and Allergy Forum.
This congress wasoriginally planned for 1999, however on request of the ERS had tobe postponed two times to avoid conflicts with other importantmeetings on similar topics. Now, after all the delays, thecongress, dedicated entirely to the paediatric respiratory andallergy issues, will take place in one of the most beautiful placesin Europe.
It is well known thatchronic diseases of the airways - namely asthma and allergicrhinitis - begin very early in childhood and very often influencethe health and the quality of life far into adulthood. We know nowmuch more about the origins of asthma, however many questionsremain to be answered. Also many other chronic respiratorydiseases, such as the interstitial lung disease or neonatal chroniclung disease have been studied in details. Many new diagnosticmethods have been developed. Despite the significance of thepaediatric respiratory diseases for the whole life of anindividual, paediatric topics form usually only a small part of biginternational scientific meetings. This paediatric congress offersspace exclusively to the paediatric respiratory and allergy issues, providing a possibility of intensive interaction betweenpaediatricians working in the field of paediatric pulmonology, allergy and clinical immunology, ENT or dermatology, and also inthe primary care. The programme covers many burning questions withan excellent faculty bringing the latest information about currentprogress of research and its clinical application.
This will also be a goodopportunity for the joint sessions with the group of WHOConsultation on Childhood Asthma and with the EFA. Paediatric "GINAGroups" can use this opportunity for the discussion aboutimplementation of the guidelines in different countries.
Prague is an ideallocation which besides of its beauty offers also all necessarytechnical facilities for organizing such a congress. We expect thatthe selected topics covering a variety of current importantproblems of paediatric pulmonology, asthmology, allergology andclinical immunology will bring to Prague many participants. Wecordially invite to Prague all the paediatricians interested inthese topics but also the colleagues from other specialities withan interest in the paediatric respiratory health.
Prague, the city in thevery heart of Europe, with rich history and culture, is expectingyou with warm hospitaly. We hope that you will use this opportunityalso to enjoy the city and its surroundings, to listen to the musicof famous Czech composers and to taste some of the world-famousCzech beer.
We look forward towelcoming you in Prague in April 2001 ande wish you"(breve)s(dot)tastn´y a p(breve)rijemn´y pobyt vPraze".
