We are very thankful to Dr. Graciela B. Raga and her coeditors for the preparation of this thematic issue, which initiates the celebration of Atmósfera’s 25th anniversary.
This issue addresses very important subjects for the region that comprises the eastern Pacific basin, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, i.e. tropical cyclones (their impact upon landfall on populated areas and landscape, their interannual variability and a historical reconstruction of landfalls from 1850 to 2010), the effect of anthropogenic emissions on the development and evolution of precipitation, the western hemisphere warm pool, the midsummer drought, and climate changes at spatial scales relevant for the small islands of the Caribbean.
I have no doubt that this issue will be very useful for our colleagues, not only on the studied region, but also for those all over the world who are interested in understanding these phenomena.
Sincerely,
Carlos Gay
Chief Editor
