Laparoscopic surgery in hepatic hydatid disease has not been widely recommended for the superior segments of the liver (Fig. 1).
We present the case of a 28-year-old patient who consulted for jaundice. Ultrasound, computed tomography and MRI of the abdomen with contrast revealed biliary sludge and a hydatid cyst in segment VIII in contact with an uncomplicated diaphragm. Cholecystectomy was performed with transcystic cholangiography and total pericystectomy with resection of the diaphragm by laparoscopy (Appendix B, Video).
The postoperative recovery was uncomplicated, and the patient was discharged on the third day after surgery. The patient completed a 12-week treatment of postoperative albendazole.
