Dear Readers and Reviewers of Cirugía Española:
As previously announced in an Editorial article, the primary objective of the Journal is to maintain and improve its scientific quality to the greatest extent. Likewise, we want to offer our readers new editorial options in keeping with the electronic advances available today. The introduction of Visual Abstracts has already become a reality. Through this communication, we would like to spread the word about two new initiatives that will be put into effect immediately:
- 1.
The Video of the Month: After the positive acceptance of the Image of the Month, we are now offering the possibility of publishing videos that are especially educational due to either the rarity of the case or a novel/original form of treatment. The rules for publication of the Video of the Month have already been incorporated into the new journal publication guidelines, which can be accessed through the website of the magazine or with the following link: http://www.elsevier.es/es-revista-cirugia-espanola-36-normas-publicacion.
- 2.
Acknowledgement of our reviewers: One of the most important tasks of a scientific journal is that of document reviewing. Elsevier has recently developed a virtual tool to record the articles corrected by each reviewer. This tool allows users to index the title as well as the number and date of the articles evaluated by each reviewer. In addition, it is able to issue a certificate for reviewers if they are required to demonstrate their reviewing activity (https://www.reviewerrecognition.elsevier.com). Reviewers can enter the platform at any time and access their profile to verify the availability of the corresponding certificates/diplomas. We believe that this new technical option will provide our reviewers the recognition they deserve for their invaluable importance to the peer review process of articles published in Cirugía Española.
Sincerely,
EM Targarona and the Editorial Committee of the Journal
