This study was aimed to describe the serum levels of folic acid in severe preeclampsia.
MethodThe study design was cross-sectional with observational analytic. Data are taken from primary data and secondary data of pregnant women and childbirth at the Central General Hospital Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar City, State Higher Education Hospital Hasanuddin University Makassar City, Special Region of Mother and Child Hospital Pertiwi Makassar City, Mother and Child Hospital Sitti Khadijah 1 Makassar City, Mother and Child Hospital Children Sitti Khadijah 3 Makassar City from June to August 2019. This study assessed serum levels of folic acid in severe preeclampsia, severe preeclampsia with complications and control.
ResultsThere were 72 patients consisting of 42 with severe preeclampsia and 30 normal pregnant mothers. Low serum folic acid levels are found in mothers with severe preeclampsia and severe preeclampsia with complications. The lowest serum levels of folic acid are in those with severe preeclampsia with complications.
ConclusionThe more severe the condition of preeclampsia, the lower the serum folic acid.
