The aims are to identify the complexity of the building and the obstacles in the implementation of the HIS.
MethodThe search in four databases, “PubMed,” “Science Direct,” and “Web of Science,” published between 1982 and 2017. Focus on the obstacles and the building of HIS, within the hospital environment.
ResultThe obstacles to implementation are varied. From the lack of training, the lack of IT support, and the lack of electricity. The complexity of the system, which ranges from one department to all departments (whole hospital) implementation, will also affect the cost. Studies found that there is a simple and also complex system. This complex system connected with other systems within the hospital (i.e. EMR connected with CPOE, radiology information system, etc.).
ConclusionThe HIS implementation should be planned thoroughly and carefully, covering the aspect of hardware–software, data, users, and also policy.
