Adaptación cultural y validación de la Escala Combinada de Dolor del Policlínico de Indiana

Resumen

Objetivo

Traducir, adaptar culturalmente y validar al español el instrumento Escala Combinada de Dolor del Policlínico de Indiana (IPCPS) para medición del dolor crónico.

Materiales y métodos

Se realizó la traducción al español, la adaptación cultural y la validación de la escala con 154 pacientes con dolor crónico en una clínica de alta complejidad.

Resultados

Se obtuvo un nivel de concordancia del 96% entre la IPCPS y la escala verbal simple, del 93% entre la IPCPS y el índice de Barthel, y del 80 y 84% entre la escala combinada de depresión y ansiedad del IPCPS y la escala de Hamilton, respectivamente.

Conclusiones

Después de concluidas las etapas de traducción y adaptación cultural, la IPCPS es la primera versión validada en el idioma español, en un grupo de pacientes con dolor crónico. Esta herramienta permite evaluar de manera expedita y confiable el dolor crónico, brindándoles a los pacientes la oportunidad de un diagnóstico y tratamiento adecuado.

Objective

Translating, culturally adapt, and validate into Spanish the Indiana Polyclinic Combined Pain Scale (IPCPS) instrument for the measurement of chronic pain.

Materials and methods

The translation into Spanish, the cultural adaptation and validation of the scale were carried out with 154 patients with chronic pain in a highly complex clinic.

Results

A 96% level of concordance was obtained between the IPCPS and the Simple Verbal Scale, 93% between the IPCPS and the Barthel index, and 80 and 84% between the Depression and Anxiety IPCPS and the Hamilton Scale, respectively.

Conclusions

After completing the translation and cultural adaptation stages, the IPCPS is the first version validated in the Spanish language, in a group of patients with chronic pain. This tool allows for an expeditious and reliable assessment of chronic pain, giving patients the opportunity for proper diagnosis and treatment.
