  • The lipid sink effect is currently believed to be a scavenging and shuttle effect.

  • Intravenous lipid emulsions are recommended in local anaesthetic toxicity, despite a low level of evidence.

  • Intravenous lipid emulsions can be effective in the treatment of severe intoxication caused by lipid-based toxins.
