Impact of COVID-19 pandemic in terms of incidence and lethality in nursing homes

We would like to share ideas on the publication “Impact of COVID-19 pandemic in terms of incidence and lethality in nursing homes in Galicia (Spain).¹” According to Losada-Castillo et al., monitoring COVID-19 in nursing homes is crucial for understanding the dynamics of the disease. According to Losada-analysis, Castillo's the sixth wave had the highest incidence and the lowest lethality, with the first wave having the highest lethality.¹ Due to the effects of vaccination, the incidence of the fourth and fifth waves was decreased.¹

We both concur that patterns of incidence and fatality in several COVID-19 waves may be due to chance. The impacts of vaccination may be to blame for the lower occurrence. But it's important to be aware of other complicating factors. It is important to emphasize the consequences of the SARS CoV2 variant's molecular mutation. The virulence of the virus could alter as a result of a molecular change.² Additionally, asymptomatic COVID-19, which is a prevalent condition, may have affected several patients.³ Those who had COVID-19 in the past but had no symptoms may be immune to a potential reinfection during the present wave.
