Abstract

Various empirical and clinical findings suggest the presence of specific, socioculturally transmitted, beliefs, values and attitudes that can affect stress levels and the ability to cope in the caregivers of elderly, dependent individuals. We present a review of these beliefs, which may act as cognitive barriers against coping in an adaptive way with caregiving.
