Computerized axial tomography (CAT) is the method of choice in the diagnostic imaging of hemodynamically stable patients with blunt abdominal injuries. Unlike other lesions, pancreatic rupture can be difficult to diagnose with CAT. In up to 40% of patients with surgically confirmed pancreatic lesions, the results of CAT are normal. We present a case of pancreatic rupture with section of the main duct that was diagnosed by CAT. We describe the role of various laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging techniques in the therapeutic approach of patients with a pancreatic lesion secondary to blunt abdominal trauma.
