Duodenal Segmentary Resection for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour: A Full Laparoscopic Approach

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours are predominantly located in the stomach (60%) or small intestine (35%), and their location in the duodenum is rare (<5%).¹ Depending on the part of the duodenum affected and the size of the tumour, surgical treatment can range from local resection or duodenal segmentectomy to pancreaticoduodenectomy.²

We present the case of an 81-year-old male who presented with symptoms of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. A tumour was diagnosed in the first and second parts of the duodenum, compatible with a gastrointestinal stromal tumour. After endoscopic control of the haemorrhage and a negative extension study, elective laparoscopic segmentectomy was performed of the first and second parts of the duodenum with primary closure and omentoplasty (Figs. 1 and 2).
