Gastrointestinal stromal tumours are predominantly located in the stomach (60%) or small intestine (35%), and their location in the duodenum is rare (<5%).1 Depending on the part of the duodenum affected and the size of the tumour, surgical treatment can range from local resection or duodenal segmentectomy to pancreaticoduodenectomy.2
We present the case of an 81-year-old male who presented with symptoms of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. A tumour was diagnosed in the first and second parts of the duodenum, compatible with a gastrointestinal stromal tumour. After endoscopic control of the haemorrhage and a negative extension study, elective laparoscopic segmentectomy was performed of the first and second parts of the duodenum with primary closure and omentoplasty (Figs. 1 and 2).
