More infoThe purpose of this study is to explore the experience of stroke patients and caregivers after discharge from the hospital.
MethodA range of databases were searched, including Pubmed, Wiley, and Proquest as well as grey literature, reference lists, and Google Scholar. The review included qualitative primary peer-reviewed research studies that focused on exploring the patients’ and caregivers’ experience in caring for stroke patients after returning from a hospital.
ResultStroke patients and their caregivers experience several problems after discharge from the hospital. Of the seven articles, three themes were obtained, namely health information, support from health workers and role changes.
ConclusionThis review shows that many stroke patients and their caregivers are not prepared well for the patients’ activities at home. Improving knowledge and skills for caregivers is essential to help them take care of the patients at home.
