Introduction

Spain's General Law of Healthallowed the development of nursingconsultation, both scheduled and on-demand

Objective

To determine the proportion of on-demand and scheduled consultations in our centerand to define users' main reasons for attending the on-demand service.

Material and Method

Observational study (cross-sectional descriptive). Stratified random sample ofpatients attending nursing consultations over oneweek. Main variables: age, type of consultation, reasons for attendance, scheduled consultation, on-demand consultation

Results

Twenty-eight percent of visits were scheduled while 72% were on-demand

Reasons for consultations

Reasons for consultations: procedures or techniques in 57.5%; drug prescriptions in 39.2% other in 3.3%

Discussion

Most patients required techniques or drug prescriptions. Nurses made an effort to perform other activities apart from those generated by the consultation. There is wide variation among the studies published in the medical literature and between these and the present study. Nursing services should become more widely known among the general public
