In today's world, with unprecedented capabilities for immediate and low-cost sharing of information and knowledge, it is appropriate and imperative that the international radiology community leadership together seek out innovative and practical ways and means to contribute and provide ready access to the current and future educational needs of providers and educators in those communities with resource constraints.

A vast source of relatively accessible and trustworthy peer-reviewed knowledge is contained in today's scientific radiology literature. Most if not all radiology journals published online and offer educational content of tremendous value to radiologists and related health care providers, but open and easy access to newly published content is often only available to journal subscribers or society members. To help advance radiology education in our global radiology community, the International Society of Radiology (ISR) and its cooperating radiology society members, along with their respective publishers and journals, have created an innovative and successful global radiology educational outreach platform known as Global Outreach Radiology, or GO RAD (www.isradiology.org/gorad) which brings together and makes freely available some of the best, up-to-date, radiology scientific literature from many of the world's leading radiology journals. This web-based platform provides immediate, free, worldwide open access to select scientific and educational journal articles at the time of the first publication. With contributions from over 30 journals published on five continents, GO RAD collects and disseminates timely radiology literature with content primarily selected with an eye towards the essential educational needs and content for radiologists, trainees, and other health care providers in developing nations and underserved populations. I am proud to say that SERAM and Radiologia are founding and important continuing contributors to this global educational effort.

For those less aware, the ISR is a federation of the world's national radiological societies whose mission is to facilitate the global endeavors of the ISR's member organizations to improve patient care and population health through diagnostic medical imaging and image-guided interventions. The ISR serves as a representative non-governmental organization with special relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) and is the specialty of radiology's primary advisor to the WHO and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) representing national and continental radiological societies on issues related to radiology, radiation protection and population health. Also, through collaborations with other international organizations and member societies, the ISR acts as a convener and facilitator to bring high quality radiological educational resources from a wide range of sources to resource challenged areas of the world. In addition to the open-access GO RAD platform, the ISR International Commission on Radiology Education aggregates many other open access educational activities include various books/monographs and thematic open source, and web-based enduring content through the ISR global Outreach Education (GO ED) platform. One of the highlights of this platform is the aggregated content dedicated towards imaging of tuberculosis, which contains a wealth of enduring material, also freely available for on-line viewing and download at no cost, from our ISR partners.

Although tremendous health disparities remain around the world, we are making progress in our efforts to expand access to educational materials for all. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere gratitude to SERAM and Jose Maria Garcia Santos for the vision and willingness to contribute to GO RAD since its inception in 2008, and offer congratulations and best wishes to Luis H Ros Mendoza for his new tenure as Editor in Chief of Radiologia. I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to improve human health.
" "pdfFichero" => "main.pdf" "tienePdf" => true "NotaPie" => array:1 [ 0 => array:2 [ "etiqueta" => "☆" "nota" => "
Please cite this article as: Stern EJ.
