Summary

Stercoral perforation of the colon (SPC) is a rarely reported illness for which hardly 81 cases have been described in the world medical literature. SPC can occur in elderly patients with a previous history of chronic constipation. We report an unusual case of SPC in an 84 years old male who presented without signs of peritonitis. Increased awareness of this condition is essential as rapid surgical intervention is the key factor in improving the prognosis. In addition, due to the progressive increase in the elderly population, it is possible that the importance and prevalence of SPC will rise in the near future.
