The lexical development of the subjects mentally handicapped has been considered from diverse points of view: the relation with the chronological age, with the mental age and with the cognitive functioning: the relations between cognitive base, compression and lexical production: the variation intersindrómica and interindividual; the function of the memory of work and the difficulties involved in the lexical learnings and in the organization of the lexico in the memory in the long term.

El desarrollo léxico de los sujetos con retraso mental ha sido considerado desde diversos puntos de vista: la relación con la edad cronológica, con la edad mental y con el funcionamiento cognitivo; las relaciones entre base cognitiva, comprensión y producción léxica; la variación intersindrómica e interindividual; la función de la memoria de trabajo, y las dificultades implicadas en los aprendizajes léxicos y en la organización del léxico en la memoria a largo plazo.
