Article information
This article is a review of the state of the question in the (Specific) Language Impairment (LI). An initial comment is about the few research and social resources devoted to it compared with other impairments and syndromes that are much less frequent. Some data about linguistic development of SLI children are exposed and discussed between generativist and constructivist theories. A special mention is given to the crosslingustic data (spainsh and other languages). A review of the controversy in the Semantic-Pragmatic Impariment, of the genetic factors in SLI and the concept of heredability of language features is also offered. Finally the most interesting principles for intervention according to the author are summarized.
