Estenosis gástrica tardía por ingestión de álcalis sin afectación esofágica

Presentamos un caso de estenosis gástrica tardía sin afectación esofágica producida por ingestión de álcalis. Históricamente se ha afirmado que la ingestión de álcalis afecta habitualmente al esófago y, por contra la de ácidos al estómagos. Actualmente se está reconsiderando esta teoría, ya que los álcalis también pueden producir afectación gástrica. Se exponen el tipo de lesiones, los métodos diagnósticos y las opciones terapéuticas que podemos aplicar tras la ingestión de álcalis. Se insiste en la necesidad de un grupo multidisciplinario para el tratamiento de este tipo de pacientes.

We present a new case of late gastric stenosis due to alkali ingestion that did not cause an esophageal lesion. Alkali intake is historically thought to provoke esophageal injury while acid ingestion supposedly results in stomach injury. This theory is now being reconsidered in view of the finding that alkalis can also injure the stomach. We discuss the kinds of lesions and the diagnostic procedures and therapeutic options available for the treatment of alkali ingestion. The multidisciplinary nature of the management of these patients is stressed.
