Material and methods

Intra and intermuscular lipomas. We analyzed a series of intra-and intermuscular lipomas requiring surgery in three hospitals between 1978 and 1998. Cases of single lipoma, large lipomas and those not associated with generalized lipomatous processes were selected

Results

Fourteen cases were found. Localization was muscle (7), shoulder (2), neck (2), thoracic wall (1) forearm (1), and leg (1). Complete resection was performed in nine and partial resection in five. Of these, recurrence occurred in four

Conclusions

Single intra- and intermuscular lipomas are infrequent and should undergo complete resection to resolve problems of compression or invasion and to prevent recurrence
