Introducción

En ratas con hipertensión portal prehepática, a corto plazo se ha descrito el desarrollo de circulación colateral portohepática a través de la vena hepática accesoria. Ya que la revascularización portal del hígado podría influir en la evolución del peso hepático y el desarrollo de la circulación colateral portosistémica, ambas variables han sido estudiadas en ratas con ligadura parcial de la vena porta a largo plazo (14 meses).

Material y método

Se utilizaron 2 grupos de ratas Wistar: control (grupo I; n = 6) y con hipertensión portal por triple estenosis calibrada de la vena porta (grupo II; n = 11). Se estudiaron la circulación colateral portosistémica y portohepática, los pesos de los lóbulos hepáticos anteriores y posteriores y las concentraciones séricas de óxido nítrico.

Resultados

Las ratas con hipertensión portal presentan heterogeneidad en el peso de los lóbulos hepáticos anteriores (medio y lateral izquierdo) y posteriores (caudado y lateral derecho). El aumento del porcentaje de peso de los lóbulos posteriores se asocia con revascularización portal a través de la vena hepática accesoria, esplenomegalia y dilatación y tortuosidad de las ramas de la vena mesentérica superior, aunque sin elevación de las concentraciones séricas de óxido nítrico.

Conclusión

La redistribución del peso lobular hepático en ratas con ligadura parcial de la vena porta a largo plazo podría reflejar la existencia de una redistribución funcional lobular hepática secundaria a la hipertensión portal que, a su vez, influye en su evolución.

Introduction

The development of portohepatic collateral circulation through the accessory hepatic vein has been described in rats with short-term prehepatic portal hypertension. Because portal revascularization of the liver could influence the evolution of liver weight and the development of portosystemic collateral circulation, we studied both variables in rats with long-term (14 months) partial ligation of the portal vein.

Material and method

Two groups of Wistar rats were used: control rats (group I; n = 6) and rats with triple calibrated stenosis of the portal vein (group II; n = 11). Portosystemic and portohepatic collateral circulation, anterior and posterior hepatic lobe weights and serum concentrations of nitric oxide were studied.

Results

The weight of the anterior (medial and left lateral) and posterior (caudate and right lateral) hepatic lobes were heterogeneous in rats with portal hypertension. The increase in the percentage of the posterior hepatic lobes was associated with portal revascularization through the accessory hepatic vein, with splenomegaly and dilation and tortuosity of the branches of the superior mesenteric vein. No increase was found in serum concentrations of nitric oxide.

Conclusion

Redistribution of hepatic lobular weight in rats with long-term partial ligation of the portal vein could reflect the existence of functional redistribu- tion of the hepatic lobe. The latter, in turn, could influence the evolution of portal hypertension.
