Summary

We studied 27 women with hirsutism, treated for one year with a daily dose of 250 mg flutamide. The Ferriman-Gallway score was measured before and at the end of the treatment year. Hormonal levels and general analysis were also measured before and at one year.

The results were: clinical improvement in 21 cases (81.48%). Two patients abandoned treatment (7.40%), and 2 patients did not improve (7.40%).

The Ferriman-Gallway score improved, changing from 17.74 to 9.33, p < 0.001, which was significant. Side-effects, were found in 6 cases (22.2%), there was no hepatotoxicity. No differences were found in the transaminases.

We conclude that flutamide is effective in the treatment of hirsutism, and well tolerated at lower doses.
