Abstract
Objective

This study aims to determine the effect of diver characteristics and knowledge on decompression through diving behavior.

Methods

Type of research is cross sectional study with sample was 100 traditional divers. Data analysis in the form Structural Equation Model with SPSS and AMOS Application.

Results

There were 37% respondents who experienced severe decompression, analysis test showed that there were direct effect between divers characteristics to decompression (p-value=0.001), knowledge to diving behavior (p-value=0.05) and diving behavior to decompression (p-value=0.37), and knowledge indirect influence with decompression illness through diving behavior.

Conclusion

However, there has no influence on diver characteristics with diving behavior and indirect effect of divers characteristics with DCS through diving behavior. Suggest for the government to continually improve the service of handling decompression and increasing knowledge through counseling.
