Presentación del Año Internacional de las Personas Mayores

La Sociedad Española de Geriatría y Gerontología (SEGG) celebró el 2 de diciembre en la sede del Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Madrid un acto de presentación del Año Internacional de las Personas Mayores, cuya presidencia de honor es S. A. R. la Condesa de Barcelona. Comenzó con una disertación del Presidente de la SEGG, profesor J. M. Ribera Casado, en la que hizo un balance del «50 Aniversario de la Sociedad» y dio las gracias a cuantas entidades habían ayudado a realizarlo, expresando los próximos proyectos de la Junta Directiva de la SEGG para 1999, declarado «Año Internacional de las Personas Mayores» por las Naciones Unidas.

A continuación se procedió a la entrega de los premios EDIMSA, MADAUS, M.S.D., NUTRICIA y otras distinciones, así como los premios a trabajos infantiles: Cruz Roja, Sanofi, etc. de los cuales había una interesante exposición.

Se rindió un homenaje a la primera Junta Directiva, personalizado en el único actual superviviente de la misma, Dr. José L. Alvarez-Sala Moris, primer Tesorero de la Sociedad Española de Gerontología (1948-1954).

II Semana de las Personas Mayores en la región murciana

Más de un millar de alumnos de colegios de la Región de Murcia participaron en un concurso sobre: «Nuestros abuelos», organizado por la Sociedad Murciana de Geriatría y Gerontología que preside actualmente el Dr. Ignacio M. Galera Pardo. Fueron ganadores Santiago Sánchez Argente del Castillo de Molina de Segura en la modalidad de cuentos y Juan Cortés Cerezo de Murcia en la de dibujo.
