In reference to the study1 in which the author includes “patients with a genetically confirmed diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolaemia undergoing follow-up by the Lipid Clinic at Hospital Universitario Araba (HUA) between 2001 and 2017”, I would like to offer the following clarifications:
The patients included from 2001 to 2011 were from the Lipid Clinic accredited by the Spanish Society of Arteriosclerosis at Hospital Santiago, which had a healthcare area covering around 100,000 inhabitants.
From 2011 onwards, due to the reorganisation of healthcare services, the HUA was created in Vitoria-Gasteiz, incorporating the Hospital Santiago and Hospital Txagorritxu and covering over 300,000 inhabitants. Since then, the HUA's Lipid Clinic has operated in this new environment.
There were therefore two different lipid clinics within Vitoria-Gasteiz, both in terms of time and the population treated, a fact that was not taken into account in the write-up of this study.
FundingThe author declares that he did not receive any funding to complete this study.
