In the lumbar ultrasound prior to the spinal block, an anechoic and fusiform image of 7 × 2 mm caudal to the conus medullaris was observed in the oblique paramedial sagittal plane (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig. 1</a>).</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0005"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Filar cysts are incidental findings on foetal and neonatal ultrasound, with an incidence of up to 14%. They are considered variants of normality that usually regress and resolve spontaneously without clinical repercussion.
