Around the 4th–5th day of admission to the Resuscitation Unit, the patient presented progressive anaemia with increasing transfusion needs and the physical examination revealed congestion of the upper limbs and head and neck with tension oedema and violet discoloration of the eyes. Given the clinical suspicion of superior vena cava syndrome due to haematoma, and despite a negative result in a transesophageal echocardiography, it was decided to request angioTac with contrast (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig. 1</a>) where a haematoma was evident (*) that compressed the superior cava vein (x) and the pulmonary artery.
