Giant-cell tumors of the bone are uncommon in the hand. Such tumors are considered more aggressive than usual, with a high rate of early local recurrence. Traditional, treatments are curettage and bone graft, wide resection followed by reconstruction, and amputation. A case of giant-cell tumor of the proximal phalanx of the thumb in a 67-year-old patient is reported. The tumor was resected en bloc and autograft reconstruction was performed. Five years after surgery, the patient has good thumb function and no evidence of local recurrence.
