La tartamudez aparece por lo general en la infancia, en algún momento entre los dos y los cinco años. Cuando se manifiesta por vez primera en una etapa más tardía, suele ser como resultado de una lesión cerebral. En este trabajo se presenta un estudio de la tartamudez originada a partir de una lesión cerebral. Se reflexiona acerca de la sintomatología, localización de la lesión y subtipos, concomitancia con la afasia, pronóstico y tratamiento, así como también acerca de una situación más compleja que es la que surge cuando a una tartamudez evolutiva le sigue una lesión cerebral.
Stuttering usually has its onset in chidhood, somewhere between the ages of two and five. When stuttering for the first time occurs later in life, it is often the result of brain damage. This paper presents a review of stuttering following brain damage. Symptomatology, lesion type and subtypes, concomitance with aphasia, and prognosis and treatment are discussed, as well as the more complex situation that arises when a developmental stutterer suffers brain damage.
