Relationship between skin temperature and medical device-related pressure injury in intensive care unit

Abstract

Objective

To examine the relationship between skin temperature and the incidence of MDRPIs in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Method

This was a prospective study that included participants to whom medical devices were attached while undergoing treatment in adult ICU of regional hospitals in eastern Indonesia.

Results

We found that the skin temperature in MDRPI group tends to be higher since the fifth day to the end of observation among of diagnostic device and intervention device (p < 0.05).

Conclusion

Increasing skin temperature contributed to the incidence of MDRPI in ICU setting. Thus, skin temperature can be used as an indicator for prevention of MDRPI.
