DESARROLLO DEL VOCABULARIO Y DEFICIENCIA AUDITIVA

El lenguaje, en su sentido más amplio, constituye el principal instrumento tanto para la representación del mundo como para la comunicación con los demás y con nosotros mismos. El lenguaje, en todos sus aspectos, se relaciona con el desarrollo psicológico en todas sus vertientes: cognitiva, social y afectiva. En este trabajo se estudia cómo la deficiencia auditiva puede afectar al desarrollo del vocabulario al final del segundo año de vida, etapa de gran crecimiento del léxico. Para ello, se compara el desarrollo del vocabulario de dos hermanos gemelos, uno de ellos con deficiencia auditiva leve. Los datos indican que existen diferencias en el desarrollo lingüístico de ambos niños tanto en cantidad como calidad de su repertorio lexical, siempre a favor del hermano oyente. Se comentan también las repercusiones que un desarrollo lexical deficiente puede tener en el desarrollo infantil.

Language, in the sense most enlarged, constitutes the principal instrument for the representation of the world and for the communication with the others and with ourself. The language, in all the aspects, relates with the psychological development in all the planes: cognitive, social and affective. The present research studies how the hear impaired affects to vocabulary growth toward the end of the second year, when children typically display a spurt in vocabulary growth. For it, the authors compare the vocabulary development in two twin brothers, one of whom with mild hearing loss. The results show that vocabulary development is different both in quantity and quality and the hearing brother is the best of them. Finally, these results are discussed in terms of their repercussions on the child development.
