La detección precoz auditiva de los neonatos

It is all over recognized the need of the universal newborn hearing screening, even there are several protocols to perform it. There are some differences about the specificity, sensibility and technical ways to make the tests. The ideal is: detection before one month, diagnosis in three months and to begin the prothesis and logopedic rehabilitation at six months. An early rehabilitation gives the possibility to use properly the critical period and to develop the maturation of the nervous hearing system, obtaining a quality of language near the normal one. The NHS (Newborn Hearing Screening) 2008 biannual congress has been a good opportunity to contrast our criteria. 60 newborn screening programes have been presented from 30 different countries. We present a summary of several aspects mentioned in the final conclusions of this important congress after attending thel presentations about neurophathy and universal newborn hearing screening programmes.

Internacionalmente está totalmente asumida la necesidad de la detección precoz auditiva de forma universal en los neonatos, existiendo protocolos y tecnologías para llevarla a cabo. Se han suscitado controversias sobre la sensibilidad, la especificidad y las técnicas de realización de las mismas. Las metas ideales a alcanzar son: detección precoz antes del mes, establecimiento del diagnóstico a los 3 meses e inicio de rehabilitación protésica y logopédica a los 6 meses. Una rehabilitación precoz supone la posibilidad de utilizar plenamente los períodos críticos de aprendizaje y conseguir la maduración de la vía auditiva de forma correcta, obteniéndose una calidad de lenguaje próxima al normooyente. El congreso bianual Newborn Hearing Screening 2008 (NHS, 2008) ha supuesto la posibilidad de contrastar nuestros criterios en un foro en el que se han presentado más de 60 programas de detección precoz auditiva de 30 países distintos. Se incluyen en las conclusiones algunos de los puntos recogidos en el resumen final de este importante congreso después del seguimiento de las distintas conferencias sobre la neuropatía y el screening auditivo universal.
