Highlights

  • A series of acid dyes has been synthesized from 1-(p-sulphophenyl)-3-methyl-4-amino pyrazolone with different phenol derivatives at high temperature 25–35°C and their Fe (II) and Cu (II) complexes have been accomplished at temperature 60–65°C.

  • Investigated acid dyes have been applied on leather which exhibit high light fastness, wash fastness and rubbing fastness.

  • Exhaustion and fixation values of these synthesized dyes are very high due to elevated physical as well as chemical interactions of polar groups with collagen protein of leather.

  • The prepared photocatalyst was used for the removal of Acid Blue 113 dye.

  • The process was optimized and analyzed using central composite design.

  • A high AB113 dye removal (99.0%) was obtained at the optimal conditions.
