A preliminary attempt was made to cannulate the right subclavian vein, which was unsuccessful, so the catheter (Port-A-Cath® 0.9 × 19 mm) was placed in left subclavian vein, without difficulties. On the fourth day, the patient presented low-grade fever, dyspnoea, and chest pain on infusion of parenteral nutrition, together with hypotension, and elevated acute-phase reactants (leucocytosis and CRP 37 mg/l) with normal coagulation.
