A partir de esta definición tan indiscutible como vaga vamos a exponer todos los matices que nos parecen significativos para comprender la complejidad de esta área de conocimiento. Tradicionalmente se han identificado los siguientes componentes básicos del lenguaje, cada uno con un dominio de estudio relativamente bien delimitado: fonética, fonología, morfología, sintaxis, semántica y pragmática. Sin embargo, cada vez más se ha cuestionado si la pragmática forma parte de este grupo o bien si se trata de un área transversal a todos estos componentes situada en una confluencia entre las ciencias cognitivas, la filosofía, la lingüística y otras disciplinas. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0100">Huang (2017)</a> distingue una escuela angloamericana que define la pragmática como el estudio sistemático del significado en virtud del uso del lenguaje o dependiente de él y otra europea continental que la concibe como una perspectiva funcional general (cognitiva, social y cultural) sobre los fenómenos lingüísticos en relación con su uso en las formas de comportamiento. Ambas tradiciones se complementan y recientemente ha habido cierta convergencia entre ellas.</p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Uno de los autores que ha sabido conceptualizar mejor la pragmática ha sido <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0195">Verschueren (1995)</a>, quien la define como la ciencia cognitiva, social y cultural del lenguaje y la comunicación. En palabras suyas, con el tiempo la pragmática ha dejado de ser un componente más de la teoría lingüística para convertirse en una perspectiva sobre el lenguaje, en un marco teórico para interpretar la comunicación (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0200">Verschueren, 1999</a>). Siguiendo a este mismo autor, en tanto que la pragmática estudia el lenguaje en relación con el comportamiento humano, solo los datos que representan este comportamiento deberían ser aceptados como evidencia empíricamente válida. Así pues, la metodología pragmática, como campo de investigación amplio y altamente interdisciplinario, debería poder integrar muestras empíricas de las dimensiones cultural, social y psicológica del uso del lenguaje. Siendo coherentes con el planteamiento de que el lenguaje no existe nunca en el vacío, no tiene sentido basarse en materiales construidos por la lingüística, con oraciones descontextualizadas y creadas artificialmente. Frente a la «idealización» del objeto de estudio toman fuerza las aportaciones de disciplinas como la psicología del lenguaje o la logopedia, con una larga tradición en el uso de la metodología observacional y que parten del lenguaje extraído de situaciones reales en un contexto determinado.</p></span><span id="sec0010" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0010">La naturaleza interdisciplinar de la pragmática</span><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">En la pragmática confluyen áreas disciplinares muy diversas y si bien cada una de ellas ha contribuido de un modo u otro a su desarrollo, sin duda la filosofía del lenguaje ha sido la que ha trazado diáfanamente el camino en sus inicios. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0220">Wittgenstein (1953)</a>, influenciado por las ideas de la psicología del lenguaje de <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045">Bühler (1934/1985)</a>, afirmaba que el significado de una expresión es su uso. Ante la falta de interés de los puristas que teorizaban sobre el lenguaje respecto al estudio de los usos lingüísticos cotidianos aparentemente caóticos y, con frecuencia, sin sentido, Wittgenstein proclamaba que no hay que desprender las palabras de su uso diario y reivindicaba que no existe significado fuera del uso verbal público, cotidiano u ordinario y que el significado de las palabras es el que tienen concretamente en una situación determinada.</p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Por su parte <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0010">Austin (1962)</a> plantea, en su célebre análisis de los actos de habla, que detrás de cualquier enunciado existe un significado literal —acto locutivo—, una intención —acto ilocutivo— y unos efectos —acto perlocutivo—. Los tres actos se dan simultáneamente y pueden ser más o menos distantes entre ellos. Cuando exclamamos «¡son las cinco!», literalmente informamos sobre la hora, ilocutivamente llamamos la atención sobre la necesidad de apresurarse para no llegar tarde y a nivel perlocutivo podemos provocar una respuesta de ansiedad incontrolada. En cualquier caso todo dependerá de la intención con la que se ha expresado el enunciado. En otras palabras, desde esta perspectiva, aprender a comunicarse consiste en saber descifrar intenciones más allá de la literalidad de las palabras. Solo entonces se estará en condiciones de comprender el lenguaje figurado que, lejos de ser residual, está presente continuamente en nuestro entorno social porque, como expresan <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0110">Lakoff y Johnson (1980)</a>, el mundo está impregnado de metáforas.</p><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">La comunicación humana se estructura en torno a la intencionalidad compartida. Los niños muy pronto manifiestan una predisposición a entender a los demás y a hacerse entender. Esta compenetración interpersonal basada en el entendimiento mutuo y el acceso a los estados mentales entre comunicantes es lo que llamamos intersubjetividad (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0190">Trevarthen, 1986</a>) y es una condición indispensable para comunicarse. Los filósofos del lenguaje confieren a la intencionalidad un papel crucial en el análisis de la comunicación humana. De hecho, las teorías de la intencionalidad en el comportamiento humano tienen una larga tradición en la filosofía, empezando por Aristóteles, continuando con Descartes, Brentano y Husserl, hasta autores contemporáneos como Dennett o Searle. Pero es Grice uno de los filósofos que más ha desarrollado este tema. Comunicar consiste en saber transmitir con claridad las propias intenciones y aprender a reconocer las intenciones de los demás. La idea de <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0075">Grice (1957)</a> de que el significado depende de las intenciones implica una intención específica acerca de la comunicación misma. Quien comunica al mismo tiempo desea que el interlocutor sepa que quiere algo de él. A diferencia del resto de animales, la motivación para comunicar entre humanos no se limita a la cooperación y al objetivo de ser más eficientes sino al simple placer de realizar actividades acompañados y poder compartir estados psicológicos (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0185">Tomasello, 2013</a>). Como expresa fenomenalmente este mismo autor: «Si te señalo un árbol no quiero sólo que prestes atención al árbol; quiero además que prestes atención a mi deseo de que prestes atención al árbol». <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0200">Verschueren (1999)</a> matizará la visión clásica de Grice porque los hablantes no solo «quieren decir», sino que «dicen sin querer», o incluso el lenguaje evoca por sí mismo aquello que el hablante no quiso decir. Es necesario preguntarse qué significa una expresión en un contexto en lugar de qué quiere el hablante que signifique una expresión en un contexto, puesto que el significado real de un enunciado no coincide siempre con las intenciones del interlocutor.</p><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall"><a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0080">Grice (1975)</a> explica cómo es posible comprender intenciones más allá del significado literal a partir de postular la existencia de un «principio general de cooperación» que se concreta en una serie de máximas de conversación. Estas deberían cumplirse para asegurar el éxito comunicativo: 1) cantidad (hay que dar tanta información como sea necesaria, ni más ni menos); 2) calidad (no afirmar lo que se crea que es falso ni aquello de lo que no se tanga pruebas suficientes); 3) relación (decir aquello que sea relevante); 4) modo (no expresarse oscuramente o de forma ambigua y ser breve y ordenado). Para complementar esta visión de la comunicación, en cierto modo idealista, Grice plantea la noción de «implicatura», que sería algo así como la información encubierta de una conversación, aquello que se dice a través de lo que no se dice o el significado que se infiere más allá de las palabras.</p><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Una vez examinada la contribución de la filosofía es tentador continuar identificando las aportaciones más significativas de las demás disciplinas y establecer correspondencias como las que sugiere <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0005">Alturo (2011)</a>. Filosofía: la intencionalidad; Sociología: la relación entre lenguaje y cultura; Antropología: la relación entre lenguaje y contexto social; Psicología: el procesamiento cognitivo en la producción e interpretación del lenguaje en contexto; Lingüística: la naturaleza del significado en la actividad lingüística; Literatura: la relación entre el uso y los recursos estructurales del lenguaje. Este análisis resulta interesante desde el punto de vista didáctico porque es claro y está bien fundamentado. Sin embargo la pragmática, como marco teórico, tiene sentido precisamente por la necesidad de ofrecer una visión global que supere las parcelas disciplinares. Sería un error restringir la interpretación de la intencionalidad, por ejemplo, solo a la perspectiva filosófica sin tener en cuenta los conocimientos que aportan la psicología, la antropología, la lingüística y la logopedia.</p><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">El análisis de la intencionalidad como tal, que no ha gozado de mucha tradición en psicología, ha adquirido protagonismo en los últimos años a raíz de las investigaciones sobre la teoría de la mente (TM), la competencia de atribuir mente a los demás, y de predecir y comprender su conducta, sus estados de conocimiento —verdaderos o falsos— y sus intenciones en función de entidades mentales como, por ejemplo, las creencias y los deseos. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0215">Wimmer y Perner (1983)</a> investigaron la TM a partir de la situación experimental de la falsa creencia y otros autores como <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0015">Baron-Cohen, Leslie y Frith (1985)</a> la aplicaron en el campo del autismo. La aplicación de la TM para el estudio de los trastornos pragmáticos está plenamente justificada porque, para inferir el significado de un enunciado, el receptor debe ser capaz de atribuir un estado mental y una intención comunicativa a la mente del emisor. La investigación en este campo puede ayudar a responder a preguntas sobre ¿cómo somos capaces de comprender las intenciones de los demás?, ¿qué procesos mentales posibilitan compartir significados y comunicarse? y ¿qué papel juega la recursividad, como proceso que subyace a la caracterización «mente que concibe estados mentales»?</p><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Los déficits de TM se han relacionado con variedad de trastornos pragmáticos tanto en niños como en adultos. Aunque el campo de lo que <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0055">Cummings (2017)</a> denomina «pragmática clínica» ha avanzado bastante en su historia relativamente breve con varios estudios sobre la TM y su relación con la pragmática, aún queda mucho camino por recorrer. Es necesario seguir investigando para caracterizar mejor las dificultades pragmáticas y diseñar planes de intervención adecuados. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0120">Monfort, Juárez y Monfort (2004)</a>, desde una perspectiva logopédica, describen perfectamente cómo la dificultad para captar intenciones se traduce, en los niños con trastornos pragmáticos, en una pobre habilidad para hacer inferencias. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0040">Bruner (1957)</a> identificaba la mente humana con una «máquina de inferencias» al referirse a su destreza para activar el conocimiento ya almacenado y utilizarlo para organizar e interpretar la nueva información entrante a través de complejas relaciones abstractas no provenientes de los estímulos. Es muy importante la contribución de la logopedia para articular teoría y práctica y aprovechar los conocimientos de todas las disciplinas del lenguaje en beneficio de las personas con un déficit pragmático.</p></span><span id="sec0015" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0015">El desarrollo de la pragmática a lo largo del ciclo vital</span><p id="par0050" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">El desarrollo de la pragmática es un campo heterogéneo que incluye una serie de temas relacionados con el modo en que los niños desarrollan las habilidades para utilizar el lenguaje de una manera eficaz y adecuada en las interacciones sociales. En los últimos años ha adquirido relevancia en estudios de niños con trastornos de espectro autista (TEA), para los que el deterioro pragmático es una característica básica del trastorno (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0160">Rollins, 2017</a>). La cuestión a analizar es cómo los niños adquieren los conocimientos necesarios para el uso apropiado, eficaz y regulado del discurso en situaciones interpersonales de manera que entiendan y se hagan entender, no ofendan y no provoquen malentendidos. Las investigaciones sobre desarrollo pragmático abordan asuntos relacionados con la edad de aparición de habilidades particulares, los procesos por los que se adquieren estas habilidades, los factores que influyen en la velocidad y el orden de adquisición y las diferencias individuales en la habilidad pragmática. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0140">Ninio y Snow (1999)</a> describen los contenidos estudiados más habitualmente bajo el epígrafe de desarrollo pragmático con profusa información acerca de las investigaciones más relevantes llevadas a cabo. En esencia, los autores destacan cuatro grandes temas: 1) Las intenciones comunicativas y el desarrollo de su expresión lingüística tomando en consideración la comunicación preverbal. 2) Las habilidades conversacionales y la adquisición de reglas que rigen la alternancia de turnos, las interrupciones, la relevancia del tema, el cambio de tema, etc. 3) Las reglas de cortesía y otras reglas de uso del habla determinadas culturalmente. 4) El control sobre los mecanismos lingüísticos necesarios para organizar el discurso de manera coherente. Pero si precisamos, la lista sigue como plantea <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0135">Ninio (2014)</a>: deixis, actos de habla, estrategias comunicativas, comprensión y producción del lenguaje no literal, humor, género y cambio de código, habilidades conversacionales, presuposiciones e implicaturas, desarrollo narrativo y desarrollo metalingüístico (peticiones de aclaración, etc.).</p><p id="par0055" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Pero el marco teórico de la pragmática no limita el desarrollo a los procesos de adquisición durante los primeros años. Existe un creciente interés para explorar cómo evolucionan las habilidades pragmáticas en la etapa adulta y en la senectud. En los países desarrollados el porcentaje de gente mayor de 75 años con una pérdida auditiva superior a los 30<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>dB HL oscila entre un 27 y un 44% (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0130">Niklaus, Hanebuth y Probst, 2011</a>). La competencia comunicativa puede verse afectada por la presbiacusia y además por cambios cognitivos como la disminución de la velocidad de procesamiento, el rendimiento atencional, la disfunción ejecutiva y el deterioro de la memoria, entre otros aspectos. El dominio pragmático va en detrimento con la edad y, como sucede con la mayoría de funciones cognitivas, es menos consistente en personas con un bajo nivel educativo. Con el envejecimiento aumentan las dificultades respecto a la alternancia de turnos debido a la mayor exigencia de atención que requiere una conversación, especialmente cuando hay múltiples interlocutores (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0125">Murphy, Daneman y Schneider, 2006</a>). A nivel paralingüístico, con la edad se producen cambios en la calidad vocal y una disminución en la capacidad de reconocimiento de las emociones específicas debido a una afectación en la prosodia y la entonación del habla. Las personas mayores son más propensas a ignorar el gesto en la conversación, tanto a nivel comprensivo como expresivo, lo cual incide en la captación del sentido figurado del lenguaje. También presentan más dificultades que los adultos jóvenes para reconocer expresiones faciales de ira, tristeza, miedo y felicidad mostradas a través de fotografías, así como para establecer una atención conjunta a través de la mirada (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0115">Messer, 2015</a>).</p><p id="par0060" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">En conclusión, el lenguaje figurado es el ámbito más afectado. Disminuye la habilidad para hacer inferencias y para comprender situaciones cómicas, las metáforas y el sarcasmo. Estas dificultades pueden dar lugar fácilmente a malentendidos, confusiones y situaciones de frustración que influirán indudablemente en la calidad de vida. El modo en que la capacidad pragmática puede verse afectada puede variar substancialmente de una persona a otra. La reserva cognitiva constituye un atenuante muy importante del declive cognitivo. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0020">Bialystok, Craik y Luk (2012)</a> han demostrado que factores como el nivel de educación, las interacciones sociales de mayor calidad y el bilingüismo retrasan o compensan los síntomas del envejecimiento cognitivo, tales como dificultades con la memoria y otras funciones ejecutivas.</p></span><span id="sec0020" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0020">Nuevos horizontes de la pragmática</span><p id="par0065" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Al lado de temas ampliamente tratados como las funciones comunicativas por celebridades como <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0105">Jakobson (1984)</a> o autores como <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0085">Halliday (1973)</a>, quienes se han esforzado en sistematizar la intencionalidad o los propósitos ilocutivos a través de exhaustivas clasificaciones, surgen propuestas nuevas que parten de precursores clásicos. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0035">Bruner (1990)</a>, inspirado en las ideas de <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0205">Vygotski (1934/1973)</a> sobre la relación entre la cognición individual y la sociedad, promueve la integración de la psicología con disciplinas próximas a las ciencias humanas y sociales con el fin de estudiar los actos de significado. En este sentido, entre los grandes temas de la pragmática que describen <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0140">Ninio y Snow (1999)</a> y <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0135">Ninio (2014)</a> aparece «la adquisición de reglas de cortesía y otras reglas de uso del habla determinadas culturalmente». <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0135">Ninio (2014)</a> explica que, a diferencia de la mayoría de las lenguas occidentales que tienen una limitada cantidad de distinciones de cortesía como el uso de los pronombres personales en tercera persona, muchas lenguas asiáticas utilizan un sistema gramatical más complejo y extenso para expresar formalidad. Por ejemplo, el japonés tiene al menos cinco niveles de cortesía, basados en elementos de vocabulario especiales y en formas honoríficas de verbos. El aprendizaje de estas reglas más elaboradas sigue un largo proceso que no resulta fácil de dominar incluso para los adultos.</p><p id="par0070" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Y siguiendo con el interés de avanzar en la pragmática intercultural, un ejemplo más. Una de las palabras más utilizadas en África oriental es «pole», que aproximadamente significa «lo siento», pero su verdadero sentido va más allá de una simple manifestación de aflicción. Todo hablante de swahili intercambia esta expresión como muestra de respeto y de reconocimiento ante la tarea que está realizando alguien. Es habitual dirigirse respetuosamente de este modo al cruzarse con una señora que lleva a cuestas un pesado cargamento de leña. Como explica <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0170">Serrallonga (2011)</a>, escuchar «pole» mientras estás arreglando una rueda tras un pinchazo no es solo una muestra de solidaridad ante un contratiempo, sino que sobre todo se trata de reivindicar el trabajo y el esfuerzo del otro. Hacerse cargo de las penurias de los demás nos traslada rápidamente al concepto de empatía y de teoría de la mente. Las reflexiones pragmáticas a este respecto son muy interesantes para comprender la naturaleza de la comunicación humana. ¿Es posible que la cultura tanzana y en concreto los hablantes de swahili sean más sensibles a los sentimientos y a la mente de los demás? ¿O bien se trata simplemente de un hábito cultural, una frase hecha, que en el fondo no implica una mayor comprensión del otro? ¿Hasta qué punto la educación es responsable de esta supuesta sensibilidad? ¿Es realmente un rasgo del África subsahariana o bien es una característica del mundo rural? Quizá si investigáramos en nuestro entorno encontraríamos diferencias de trato importantes en cuanto al repertorio de recursos que tienen los jóvenes para dirigirse a un adulto, significativamente mayor en algunos pueblos que en las ciudades.</p></span><span id="sec0025" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0025">Evaluación de la pragmática</span><p id="par0075" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Las dificultades pragmáticas son más difíciles de detectar y describir que los problemas formales del lenguaje porque dependen de reglas implícitas y del contexto específico. Así pues, valorar la competencia pragmática no es una tarea sencilla. Es necesario complementar la utilización de instrumentos estandarizados con la descripción de perfiles individualizados que detallen los problemas lingüísticos y sobre todo el uso de métodos observacionales.</p><p id="par0080" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Para explorar las habilidades pragmáticas en niños existen test globales de lenguaje que incluyen un apartado específico al respecto, registros de observación, cuestionarios, instrumentos que evalúan específicamente determinadas habilidades pragmáticas, protocolos de transcripción de conversaciones y técnicas exploratorias de situaciones informales como la «Hora de Juego Lingüística» diseñada por <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0180">Soprano (2011)</a>. Sin ánimo de ser exhaustivos queremos destacar tres instrumentos basados en la observación de padres y maestros en contextos cotidianos que nos parecen interesantes. En primer lugar, el <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Children's Communication Checklist</span> (<span class="elsevierStyleSmallCaps">CCC</span>) de <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0025">Bishop (1998)</a>, que permite detectar las dificultades en el uso pragmático del lenguaje y diferenciar subtipos clínicos (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050">Crespo-Eguílaz, Magallón, Sánchez-Carpintero y Narbona, 2016</a>). En segundo lugar, el <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Communication and Symbolic Behavior Scales</span> (CSBS; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0210">Wetherby y Prizant, 2002</a>), una de las mejores escalas para valorar la comunicación temprana y el comportamiento simbólico en niños de 6 a 24 meses o hasta 72 meses si hay retrasos en el desarrollo. Utiliza entrevistas con padres y procedimientos de muestreo naturalistas para recopilar información crucial, tanto de habilidades lingüísticas como de comportamientos comunicativos. Y finalmente el Perfil de Trastornos Pragmáticos (PTP; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0120">Monfort et al., 2004</a>). La evaluación del lenguaje en los trastornos pragmáticos no depende solo de las habilidades del niño, sino también de las habilidades del adulto para comprender e interpretar correctamente sus intenciones, prestarle ayuda para completar su expresión y ajustar su propio lenguaje a las necesidades. <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0120">Monfort et al. (2004)</a> ofrecen recursos como cuestionarios que debe rellenar el profesional cuando observa la interacción de los adultos próximos (fundamentalmente padres y también profesores), entre otros.</p><p id="par0085" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Desde una perspectiva lingüística clínica, y tanto para niños como para adultos, <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0070">Gallardo (2006)</a> diseña un perfil de evaluación pragmática denominado PerLA en el que se distinguen tres categorías pragmáticas: 1) pragmática enunciativa, 2) pragmática textual y 3) pragmática interactiva. Posteriormente, como simplificación del PerLA aparece el Protocolo Rápido de Evaluación Pragmática (PREP) PREP-INIA y más recientemente PREP-R, el cual revisa, mejora y explica el PREP desarrollado 10 años antes (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0060">Fernández-Urquiza, Díaz, Moreno, Lázaro, Simón López, 2015</a>).</p><p id="par0090" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Finalmente, respecto a la evaluación pragmática de adultos exclusivamente, existen varios instrumentos de evaluación que examinan componentes específicos de la competencia pragmática. Según <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0175">Sobhani Rad (2014)</a>, las listas de verificación más utilizadas para evaluaciones pragmáticas y funcionales de adultos son las siguientes: <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Discourse Comprehension Test</span> (DCT; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0030">Brookshire y Nicholas, 1997</a>), <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Pragmatic Protocol</span> (PP; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0150">Prutting y Kirchner, 1983</a>), <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">The Profile of Communicative Appropriateness</span> (PCA; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0145">Penn, 1985</a>), <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Communicative Abilities in Daily Living</span> (CADL; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0090">Holland, 1980; Holland, Frattali y Fromm, 1999</a>), <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Functional Communication Profile</span> (FCP; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0165">Sarno, 1981</a>), <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Functional Assessment of Communication Skills</span> (FACS; <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0065">Frattali, 1995</a>). Como se puede observar, resulta evidente la necesidad de contar con pruebas traducidas y adaptadas a nuestro contexto. En este sentido, recientemente ha aparecido el protocolo MetAphAs para la evaluación de habilidades metalingüísticas en pacientes con afasia (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0225">Rosell-Clari y Hernández Sacristán, 2014</a>). Después de revisar las evaluaciones pragmáticas en adultos, <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0175">Sobhani Rad (2014)</a> concluye que un buen sistema de evaluación debería considerar los cuatro aspectos siguientes: el análisis de la comunicación en contextos naturales, la evaluación multidimensional para caracterizar los comportamientos lingüísticos y los procesos cognitivos subyacentes al lenguaje, el nivel de adaptación del individuo y finalmente los efectos de los trastornos pragmáticos en la vida diaria.</p><p id="par0095" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Para finalizar, la evaluación de la competencia pragmática debería ser el punto de partida para planificar una intervención dirigida a mejorar la capacidad de adaptación de la persona a un entorno comunicativo cambiante. El objetivo primordial debe ser contribuir a conocer la naturaleza de los apoyos que una persona necesita para su óptimo desarrollo. Etiquetar las dificultades pragmáticas, en el caso de los niños especialmente, puede contribuir a dar visibilidad a una problemática que no es atendida adecuadamente.
