UNA PROPUESTA DE EVALUACIÓN DE LAS INTERACCIONES COMUNICATIVAS MADRE-HIJO: LA PRUEBA MOTHER-INFANT COMMUNICATION SCREENING (MICS)

En la primera parte de este artículo se describe detalladamente la prueba Mother/Infant Communication Screening (MICS), que evalúa las interacciones comunicativas entre madres y sus hijos de 0 a 12 meses con el propósito de detectar pautas interactivas tempranas inadecuadas que puedan comprometer el desarrollo posterior de los bebés. La escala evalúa diferentes aspectos relacionados con dichas pautas de interacción –la influencia mutua, la reciprocidad y la sincronía– a través de cinco subescalas: lenguaje y sincronía, estado de incomodidad, alimentación, juego/estado neutro y descanso. En una segunda parte del artículo se presentan los resultados de un estudio piloto en el que se utilizó esta prueba con 10 díadas madre-hijo/a. A partir del análisis de la prueba, así como de los resultados del estudio piloto, las autoras consideran la pertinencia de traducir y adaptar la prueba a nuestra lengua; igualmente reflexionan en torno a la utilidad que para los profesionales de la logopedia tendría la elaboración de un instrumento, basado en la MICS, pero que evaluase las interacciones entre madres y sus hijos hasta los 4 años y que incorporase algunos aspectos prelingüísticos y lingüísticos de las interacciones más sutiles, como el equilibrio de turnos conversacionales, su densidad o la sobreatribución de significado por parte de la madre, entre otros.

This article describes in detail the Mother-Infant Communication Screening test (MICS), used to assess communicative interaction between mothers and their children from 0 to 12 months. The aim of the test is to detect early inappropriate interactive patterns that may jeopardize infants’later development. The scale evaluates different aspects related to these interactional patterns –mutual influence, reciprocity and synchrony– through five sections: language and synchrony, distress, feeding, play and neutral state and rest. The second part of the article presents the results of a pilot study in which this test was applied to 10 mother-infant dyads. From the analysis of the test, along with the results of the pilot study, the authors consider it would be worth translating and adapting the test to the Spanich language and it would indeed be useful for language therapist to have a tool based on the MICS. However, it is also suggested that, on one hand, this interactions between mothers and their children up to 4 years should also be assessed and, on the other hand, some pre-linguistic and linguistic aspects of more subtle interactions, such as the balance of conversational shifts, their richness or the overattributing of meaning by the mother should also be incorporated.
