Investigaciones recientes han hecho que nos replanteemos la cuestión de la intervención en tartamudez temprana. La tartamudez aparece habitualmente entre los 2 y los 5 años, y desaparece sin necesidad de tratamiento en el 80 % de los niños. El problema que se les plantea a los clínicos es decidir ante cada nuevo caso las posibilidades que tiene de recuperarse o terminar padeciendo una tartamudez crónica, para establecer, en consecuencia, el tratamiento más adecuado. En este artículo analizamos un modelo teórico desde el que entender el origen y el mantenimiento de la tartamudez. Partiendo de este modelo y de estudios recientes sobre el tema, ofrecemos unos criterios para elegir la modalidad de tratamiento más adecuada. Por último, revisamos las diferentes técnicas de intervención que se pueden usar para modificar tanto aquellos aspectos ambientales que influyen sobre la tartamudez, como la propia habla del niño.
Under the new perspective offered by recent research, early stuttering intervention criteria and treatment perspectives has been review. Usually stuttering onset is between ages 2 and 5 years and disappears without treatment in the eighty percent of the cases. The biggest problem for the clinicians is to decide about the possibilities of every new case, remission vs. chronic stuttering, to choose consequently the most adecuate treatment. In this paper we will discuss a theoretical model to understand disorder’s origin and maintenance. Departing of this model and recent studies revision on the topic, some criteria to choose treatment modality are proposed. Finally, we will focus on the different therapeutic approaches used to modify both environmental and child’s speech aspects.
