Resumen

En el presente estudio se recoge lo que en líneas generales constituye el panorama de la Logopedia en Estados Unidos y en qué medida puede sacar provecho un futuro profesional y/o investigador que pretenda cursar estudios de postgrado en aquel país.

En la primera parte quedan de manifiesto los dos principales objetivos que justifican la elaboración de este trabajo: por un lado, exponer de un modo conciso y gráfico una situación diferente a la de nuestro país y cuyo conocimiento puede resultar muy enriquecedor; por otro, orientar a logopedas, investigadores y, en particular, a estudiantes interesados en los terrenos de la adquisición del lenguaje y de la terapéutica de las discapacidades comunicativas, con el propósito de acercarlos a diferentes posibilidades de formación tanto en lo académico como en lo profesional.

En la segunda parte se incluye, en el Apéndice I, un glosario de terminología relacionada con el ámbito académico universitario de Estados Unidos. El Apéndice II consiste en una lista de universidades en las que se imparten estudios de Logopedia con su correspondiente dirección de Internet (WWW).

Summary

This piece of work aims to show the current situation of the field of Speech and Language Pathology in the United States and to what extent either a future professional or a researcher who thinks about taking some postgraduate courses there may benefit from it.

In the first part we present the two main purposes that justify this paper: on the hand, to show in a concise and graphic way a situation quite distinct from that of our country; this information might prove very fruitful. On the other hand, to orientate speech and language pathologists, researchers and, in particular, students that might be interested in both the fields of language acquisition and communicative disabilities remediation whith the objective of bringing them closer to different training posibilities both in the academic and the (professional aspect). (In the second) part (corresponding to Appendix I) there is a glossary of terms related to the universitary academic field in the (United States. Appendix II consists) in a list of some universities where different courses on Speech and Language Pathology are taught, together with their corresponding Internet address (WWW).
