Debaryomyces hansenii F39A as biosorbent for textile dye removal
Florencia Ruscasso, Brenda Bezus, Gabriela Garmendia, Silvana Vero, Gustavo Curutchet, Ivana Cavello, Sebastián Cavalitto
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2021;53:257-65
21
Highlights

  • Debaryomyces hansenii F39A biomass can remove textile dyes from aqueous solutions.

  • D. hansenii was able to adsorb from low to higher concentrations of dye.

  • Kinetic and biosorption isotherms were modelled.

  • D. hansenii could be an efficient and inexpensive biosorbent in wastewater treatment.

Removal of dyes by immobilization of Trametes versicolor in a solid-state micro-fermentation system
L.A. Diorio, D.M. Salvatierra Fréchou, L.N. Levin
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2021;53:3-10
19
Highlights

  • A two-phase bioreactor for dye decolorization by filamentous fungi is presented.

  • It allowed de-coupling of sterile growth and non-sterile decolorization.

  • First phase involved dye decolorization by immobilized fungal cultures.

  • Spherical plastic polyethylene mesh cartridges filled with wheat bran were used.

  • In the second phase extracellular ligninolytic extracts were applied.

Effect of fungicides commonly used for Fusarium head blight management on growth and fumonisin production by Fusarium proliferatum
Eugenia Cendoya, María Julia Nichea, María del Pilar Monge, Vanessa G.L. Zachetti, Stella Maris Chiacchiera, María Laura Ramirez
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2021;53:64-74
18
Highlights

  • All fungicides reduced F. proliferatum growth rates when compared to the control.

  • All fungicides reduced fumonisins production when they were used in high doses.

  • Fungicides effect in growth and FBs increased, as they concentration increased.

  • Except P, all fungicides used in sub-lethal doses enhanced FBs production.

  • P was the most effective fungicide: inhibited growth and FBs in most conditions.

Highlights

  • Campylobacter jejuni is an important food-borne pathogen with a global distribution.

  • We evaluated the genotype of C. jejuni isolates from broiler farms and slaughterhouses.

  • It is the first molecular epidemiology study of Campylobacter in the broiler production chain in Argentina.

  • C. jejuni isolates showed high genetic diversity by PFGE and MLST typing.

  • Novel MSLT C. jejuni genotypes have been identified in Argentina.
